Travellers checks / credit cards
Traveler’s checks in dollars or euros are exchanged in all banks and at authorized moneychangers. Hotels charge an additional commission on foreign exchange and do not always accept to change travelers checks.
Most international credit cards (Visa, American Express, Diners, MasterCard) are accepted in banks and in shops (hotels, restaurants, shops).
Banks are open Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 15:30 excluding holidays. The largest banks (Bangkok Bank, Thai Danu Bank) carry out foreign exchange transactions seven days from 7 am to 21h in the major tourist centers. Many ATMs can withdraw at any time in the street.
Foreign tourists can freely import foreign currencies. When leaving the country, they can highlight, for up to US $ 10 000 (or equivalent) or the amount declared in writing to Customs upon arrival. Compliance with this regulation name may lead to prosecution, arrest and / or forfeiture of amounts not reported.
Leaving Thailand, the maximum allowed in local currency is 50,000 baht per person.
Visitors can import bills and personal property allowed by law. Visitors can export the products purchased in Duty Free Shops, precious stones, gold and platinum items purchased in Thailand.
Foreign visitors are allowed to open a bank account in any commercial bank. For non-residents, there are no restrictions on the movement of the account until the funds come from abroad.
